Donations to help Abdul Samad set up his flat and get on his feet in New Zealand.
Wellington
Abdul Samad Haidari arrived in New Zealand after a life of persecution and trauma -- including working as a child labourer in Iran and spending 10 years in a refugee camp in Indonesia. He has now got a permanent flat and is looking forward to finding a job. Abdul Samad lost his wallet with his life savings in it ($3200) in his second week in NZ, so he has nothing.
To help him establish himself up in his new flat, we, some Kiwi journalists who want to help Abdul Samad, have set up this page for him. All donations will go directly into his bank account, and he is extremely grateful and overwhelmed for all the support he is receiving from New Zealanders.

Things he needs for his new flat -- sheets and towels, cleaning products, filling his new pantry
Abdul Samad is now settled in his new home 4 May 2023
Thank you so much to everyone who contributed to this fund -- Abdul Samad is overwhelmed by your generosity and manaakitanga. He is now settled into his new apartment in central Wellington, and has furnished his entire apartment (down to Afghan-style rugs!) thanks to the kindness of strangers.
Now he can devote his energy to finding a job and embarking on the next phase of his life in Aotearoa.
Thank you all
