Tēnā koutou e te whānau!
21 December 2018I am writing to update you on this campaign and to let you know about a new direction for Alethea’s journey. As many of you know, a journey like hers is not a linear one, and decisions around many things including medications are made and revised very frequently!
For now, Alethea - with the help of her oncologist, has made the decision to pause the immunotherapy. Alethea was offered another drug to try which they hope will help with pain reduction and the slowing of tumour growth. This drug cannot be safely taken alongside immunotherapy as the toxicity level would be too high.
While Alethea hopes to resume the immunotherapy in the future, the more immediate need has changed - and being that this Givealittle campaign was primarily to raise funds for immunotherapy, we feel it has achieved what was needed at that time and we have decided to close it.
Your support for Alethea, with funds - but also with your kind words, thoughts, prayers and other offerings, have been so invaluable to Alethea, Kelly, Taikura and their wider whānau. They have been so encouraged and uplifted by you all.
There will be other kaupapa ongoing to help support Alethea and her whānau, and you are invited to continue to follow the journey for now on the “Help Alethea’s Healing” Facebook page.
Ngā mihi nunui,
