Help Ben Williams Get to Andorra for the 2018 World Mountain Running Championships

Ben Williams has just been named in the New Zealand Mountain Running Team who will be heading away in September to Canillo, Andorra to compete in the World Mountain Running Championships!

This is a huge achievement for Ben as at 17 years old he is the only Junior in the 9 person NZ Team.

Ben has achieved some excellent results in South Island Events over the last 4 years. Some of these events are;

* Ben has been the runner for the successful Greymouth High School Coast to Coast Team for the past 3 years, he has helped his team to a second in 2016, first in 2017 and second in the open section in 2018. Ben also holds the unofficial record for the fastest time over the mountain run stage for someone under 18.

* In February 2017 Ben took on the 85km Old Ghost Ultra, completing the race in 10:45 with the fastest time for someone under 21.

* Mission Mt Somers: Last year on his 17th Birthday Ben completed the Mission Mt Somers 21km race and won the u18 category and place 3rd overall.

* Pulse Oparara Wilderness Trail (21km): First overall (2018)

* Mount Oxford Odyssey (21km): First overall (2018)

Finally, the event that qualified Ben for the World Championships; The New Zealand Mountain Running Championships. Ben managed to win the U18 8km race quite comfortably.

He has also competed in any many more smaller races over the past 4 years.

Ben puts alot of time and effort into what he does and this is a thoroughly deserved reward.

Athletics NZ have indicated costs to attend will be $6,000 per person, Ben is`really excited to make this trip and I hope that through this give a little campaign we can help reduce the financial burden.
