Please support Mikaele with hospital costs and medically assisted transfer from Canada to Fiji.
Auckland
We are reaching out to ask for your urgent help for Mikaele Colaudolu, a loving uncle who travelled from Fiji to Toronto, Canada to attend his nephew's wedding on the 7 August 2026. Sadly, he never made it to the wedding. What should have been a joyful family journey and celebration, turned into a nightmare when he was first stranded in Vancouver due to the WestJet strikes. After three days he finally secured a flight to Toronto. As Mikaele was preparing to board his connecting flight, he suddenly felt numbness in his right leg and was unable to walk onto the plane. The medics rushed him to Richmond hospital, then transferred to Vancouver General Hospital for emergency surgery to relieve the numbness. The results were devastating. Doctors discovered a tumor pressing on his spine and further tests revealed that the cancer has unfortunately spread to his lungs and kidneys. Mikaele has now lost all movement in both legs and is paraplegic. He is far from home, facing a massive battle, and mounting medical bills, estimated at $90,000 CAD for hospital costs and $77, 920 CAD for medically assisted transfer due to not having travel insurance. His transfer home must be carefully coordinated by the medical team. Mikaele will need to travel on a stretcher for the duration of the flight with space arranged by Fiji Airways and two medical staff. Please donate if you can, an share this page with your networks. Vinaka vakalevu for your generosity, kindness, and compassion.
Mikaele is my brother-in-laws younger brother, my sister's brother-in-law.
The total amount needed is $167, 920 CAD. This will go towards Mikaele's hospital costs and medically assisted transfer back to Fiji.
