Help Buddy Battle Cancer

  • Extending campaign

Buddy has adjusted amazingly to 3 legs and is gaining strength every day. He blitzed his first round of chemo, however unfortunately his white blood cell count was too low for his second round, so that has been postponed until the 22nd July. Buddy is so brave with all the blood tests, we are starting to have a little trouble with his veins as they've been poked and prodded so many times so it takes a few attempts to get blood. I am extending this campaign as we are still approx $2100 short for the remaining chemo treatments, plus I have borrowed another $2k to get us where we are today. I have so much love and gratitude to everyone who has helped / is helping us along this journey. Please check out #buddyscancerjourney on Instagram for lots of photos, videos and more regular updates

  • Buddy's update

      4 June 2019

Buddy had his amputation on Friday 17th May. There are loads of updates, stories and photos on instagram - see #buddyscancerjourney

Buddy is recovering well. He is adapting to life on three legs and astounds me every day with his courage, determination and bravery.

Buddy starts chemotherapy on 19th June. His consult, first round of chemo and physio totals $1200, plus he will need a further 4 chemo sessions at approx $800 per session ($770 fpr 1hr chemo plus travel to and from Auckland as there is no facility in Hamilton for treatment).

The total still needed to complete treament is at least $4400. Ideally, Buddy needs hydrotherapy and physiotherapy but it all costs money so I have decided to learn about physiotherapy and hydrotherapy so that I can make do with only one session. The one session is important for assessment as we need to ensure Buddy is distributing his weight effectively to avoid injury to his three remaining limbs, and to ensure his posture is correct in order to prevent spinal injury.

We wouldn't be here without everyones help, but we still have a way to go so if anyone can sacrifice their daily coffee and muffin Buddy and I would appreciate that from the bottom of our hearts xx

Attached is a photo of Buddy from 2 days before his amputation - we won a photoshoot from Hairy Dog Photography NZ so a huge thanks to Rachel for the gorgeous photo!

  • Change of goal

      22 April 2019

After Buddy's appointment with the specialist, it became apparent that my fundraising goal was much too low.

The costs to date are over $5,500, and the indicative cost for amputation and Chemotherapy is an additional $10,000.

We need your help more than ever
