Byron, a surfer, runner, and hardworking builder, faces his biggest battle yet with PMP cancer and the “mother of all surgeries.
Tauranga Taupo, Waikato
Byron has always lived life to the fullest. A surfer, runner, builder & leather worker, he’s never been afraid of hard work or chasing the waves. His energy, determination, & love for the outdoors have always defined him.
Years ago, Byron’s world changed when he suffered a traumatic brain injury that cost him the sight in one eye. Many would have given up, but not Byron. With resilience & grit, he rebuilt his life & continued to do the things he loved.
Now, Byron is facing an even bigger battle. He has been diagnosed with PMP cancer (Pseudomyxoma Peritonei), a devastating disease. To fight it, he must undergo Cytoreductive Surgery with HIPEC (Heated Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy) often called “the mother of all surgeries”. It is one of the most extreme & gruelling operations a person can face, lasting many hours & followed by a long, difficult recovery.
This diagnosis has forced Byron to give up the work he loves, leaving a financial strain on top of everything else. But while cancer may have paused his building projects, runs & time on the ocean, it hasn’t taken away his fighting spirit.
Byron has already proven he is a survivor once and with our support, he can do it again. This page has been set up so that his community can come together to ease the burden & give Byron the best chance to recover, heal, and return to the work, waves and trails he loves.
Every donation, message, & act of kindness will help Byron focus on what truly matters: his fight, his healing, & his future.
I’m Byron’s sister, and I’ve seen his incredible strength through every challenge life has thrown at him. I’ve set up this page because I want to give him the support he needs — and deserves — as he faces this next battle.
The funds will be used to support Byron through his surgery and long recovery, covering living costs while he cannot work, and easing the financial pressure so he can focus fully on healing.
Funds will also be used for uncovered treatment, rehabilitation and uncovered medical expenses. His exact treatment plan has not yet been decided, once this has been confirmed we will post a Page Update.

Discharge 23 December 2025
After 18 days since “the mother of all surgeries”, infections, blood clots, the loss of 9kgs, pain and discomfort, I have been discharged from the Waikato Hospital.
I would like to thank everyone, friends and family for the donations, support and positive messages. To the (6+)surgeons, anaesthetists and nurses. Being as fit as I could be definitely helped letting the surgeons push harder.
I am looking forward to making a successful recovery, but have a long road ahead, of discomfort, pain, ongoing medication, pain killers and daily blood thinning injections.
I am also thankful to my mother Sam for keeping a close eye on me, supplying me with a comfortable bed and delicious nutritious food.
I with everyone a very merry Christmas, I will see you all in the new year.
Byron ✌🏼
