Help Carl live: Join us in raising needed funds for brain cancer treatments for a husband, father, and friend

  • Sad Update.

      8 March 2024

Sadly Carl deteriorated quickly on Monday afternoon and passed away on Monday night. Jane, their children and Carl’s family are understandably devastated, as I know you will be, his community of supporters.

He was overwhelmed by this support, and Jane has asked me to express her sincere gratitude to each and every one of you – your kindness has brought some light on their darkest days.

We will keep this page open for a couple more weeks, and any further funds raised will be used to support Casper, Henry and Gemma over the coming weeks.

If you would also like to provide other types of support to Jane and the children, please go here: https://app.supportcrew.co/register?invitationCode=aa2b26c0-f777-4163-8a97-85ceda32a442

Carl's funeral service will be held on Wednesday 13 March, 2pm, at All Saints Chapel Purewa, 100 Saint Johns Road, Auckland

One of life’s bloody good guys. Rest in peace Flash, your legacy lives on.

  • Treatment update.

      4 March 2024

Unfortunately, this update is not filled with the same positivity as the last, but it still comes with the same immense gratitude from Carl and Jane for your generous support so far.

Carl’s most recent MRI scan shows the treatment is now only partially working for his aggressive type of brain cancer. The plan is to fire up Carl’s immune system using Ketrudya (an unfunded immunotherapy drug) combined with a second round of radiation. Keytruda costs $8,000 every three weeks, and Carl started treatment last week.

Any extra support you can provide, or by sharing this link to your networks, would be hugely appreciated, as it already is. Or if you have any fundraising ideas or other thoughts about how to raise more funds, please reach out to me, Flic +64278074295

  • Happy New Year - Round 9!

Carl's completed his 2nd round of chemo during this Christmas break and his 9th round of this drug combo. After 10 rounds, he'll get a scan to see what's happening.

In the last week Carl has been feeling good! No new symptoms appeared and we're hopeful the drugs are working. He's felt good enough to try doing a few laps down at the pool. Swimming isn't a "high risk" activity but as the support person, I'm always on alert. It was a relief the pool was busy - if something went wrong, there are people who could help.

If you're reading this update, you're already one of those people. One day I'd like to pay it forward but for now all we can say is a huge "thank you". To all the contributors and supporters of this page (and outside of this page), to those who drop warm biscuits on our doorstep and fill our freezer with dinners and to those who help Carl every week - including the coffees, check-ins and walks.

    A very heartfelt thank you!

Carl and Jane have asked me to express their sincere gratitude for your generosity. They have been totally blown away and humbled, thank you, thank you, thank you! Your donations were put to good use this week with Carl receiving his 6th treatment... all done with a 'flashy' 😅 smile on his face!
