  • Merry Xmas from mine to yours

Approximately 20 months ago (during April 2020 lockdown or soon after) you contributed to my Givealittle page...we needed $87,000 for unfunded cancer drugs to try and save my life.

My heart is full as I write this Xmas message to you - your donation is the reason why I am writing this wee note today. Thanks to you, I received the treatment that was needed and to this day, I remain cancer free!

From my family to yours, I hope this Christmas period is filled with aroha, joy and peace. To the little children who also donated to my cause, your pocket money has 100% been put to good use! (Although i'm sorry it wasn't for lollies!!) I am very happy being able to live a life I wasn't sure would have been possible, thanks everyone who donated to my cause.

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, and your 2022 hopes and dreams come true.

    Carlyn xx

  • Cancer Free!

We launched this Givealittle page while still in lockdown on Anzac Day and, thanks to every single one of you, which included incredible support from the More FM Breakfast Club, we raised the funds needed in just 18 days to get Carlyn’s treatment underway.

Today we are so happy to share Carlyn’s latest news. Earlier this week Carlyn had a full body scan which revealed all of her tumours have now completely disappeared. Specialists have advised she’s cancer free as there are no tracers of the cancer in her body!! Because Carlyn’s case is unique given the exhaustive treatment she had undergone in the public system in advance of this immune therapy drug, she will remain on the drug at spread out intervals with a review in April next year as a precaution.

We are ecstatic with this news and we hope many others out there fighting this cruel disease are also given hope that actually, there are options out there that are working! From Carlyn to be told palliative end-of-life care was the only option if funding for this immune therapy drug wasn’t successful, to being cancer free eight months later speaks volumes of our public system and what needs to change.

Carlyn’s drug is funded by the Australian Government costing recipients just $40 per dose. We need this country to embrace funding these proven drugs to help many other children, brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers who deserve to be also given this second chance at life.

Carlyn is committed to sharing her story more widely to help support drugs like this one to be not only Government-approved for use in NZ, but actually funded by the system also.

  • From golf balls to peas

We are thrilled to share with you some positive news about Carlyn's immune therapy treatment.

Yesterday Carlyn had her first CT scan since starting the treatment. She then met with her oncologist to see how things were progressing.

Before the treatment, Carlyn's tumours were the size of golf balls. Yesterday her full body scan revealed that those tumours had since shrunk to the size of peas!!

This is the best possible news as it shows the drug is working and doing what we hoped it would do.

Tomorrow Carlyn reaches the halfway mark for treatment and while not out of the woods just yet, she is certainly on the right track toward winning this battle and couldn't be happier with the results to date.

  • Green light for treatment!

Like many people on this page, we started out with one very big hill to climb. Never did we imagine that in just 18 days, our goal would be smashed and Carlyn would have the green light to get the treatment she needs!

We did it. We did it because of YOU!

The outpouring of love and generosity shown at this time for Carlyn’s cause has been mind-blowing and will stay with us forever.

Friends have rallied behind her, friends of friends have joined in and complete strangers have completed this groundswell of support. From donating directly to the fund or starting their own mini fundraisers achieving significant donations along the way, we are forever touched by this positive and uplifting experience during a time of such uncertainty.

Yesterday the More FM Breakfast Club got behind Carlyn and showed the power of radio with its family of listeners donating the last $10,000 needed in just under an hour!

Carlyn’s cancer drug is capped at $60k meaning any additional treatment thereafter is free, minus hospital care costs which we’ll still need to pay should she need more of the drug.

With that in mind, the money that has been reached over and above the $87k ($60k treatment and $23k hospital care costs) will be kept in the kitty until such time we know Carlyn is in the clear and we’re not needing to dip back in for more hospital care. Should that be the case, Carlyn will be paying it forward to other Kiwis in need of funding support that could help save their lives.

Carlyn is empowered and ready to go kick this cancer to the curb thanks to you all rallying behind her!! xx

Since we launched this page just three days ago, Carlyn, her mum and siblings have been staying in touch virtually in their house 'bubbles' watching the donations flow in and reading the many messages of support. There have been a few tears - happy tears.

The following message is from Carlyn to you all.

"I’ve been struggling to find the right words and I still don’t really know where to begin. This is something I have always just kept close - for no reason other than to just get on with it.

"Off the back of the last couple of days the main thing I want to say is - THANK YOU! This has been one hell of a crazy ride and to have already raised half of what we need absolutely blows my mind.

    * If you’ve shared the page - thank you :)

    * If you’ve donated - thank you :)

    * If you’ve messaged me or my family - thank you :)

"I see you all and I will forever be grateful for the kindness & generosity that has shown through this time.

    "Let’s do this 👊🏻⚡️"
