Fulfill Marees final wish of travelling by campervan around the North Island with her children and grandchild...
Nationwide
Late last year Maree ended up in hospital with an infection in the gall bladder, she was given antibiotics and a stint was put in until an appointment became available to have gall stones removed. A few weeks later Maree started loosing her appetite even for the glass of wine which she enjoyed after a hard day's work, she began loosing weight rapidly and was more tired then usual.
From that time to February this year she had a range of complications which led to more tests and eventually being diagnosed with an agressive form of cancer affecting the gall bladder which had also spread to the liver. She was given just months to live. Sadly surgery was not a option and she was offered a low dose of chemotherapy in the hope it would buy her a little more time with her family and friends.
Because of the short amount of time given she had to cease work immediately. As an independent hard working woman whose always worked hard to support herself and her family this was a real struggle for her, from being the one who supported those with disabilities and behavioral issues to now needing someone to care for her. Marees oldest daughter and family returned from Australia to become her full time career.
The chemotherapy offered which lasted 6 cycles ended in late July, Maree was feeling good and results from specialists we're good. Then in August she ended up back in hospital with an infection which really knocked her around, she was hospitalized another 3 times due to infections. During this time she was bedridden for near 7 weeks due to the pain of the liver being inflamed and pushing against the organs. She eventually had a syringe driver put in to help with the pain as oral medications were not being absorbed. After another CT scan results showed the cancer had returned and was spreading quicker than before.
While she is still mobile and the pain is being managed well, one of her final wishes on her bucket list is to travel around the North Island with her two children and eldest granddaughter to visit some sights she's never had a chance to see...
Please help Maree complete her final wish 💜
