2020 has been hard. For our brother Jon, its been particularly tough, and as his sisters, we are setting up this Give A Little page to help support Jon and his young wife Dewi who has been recently diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma cancer.

Many of you will know that 2 years ago our family was visiting our brother Jon and Dewi just after they were married on the tiny island of Gili Trawangan, Lombok, when a large earthquake struck. This took the lives of over 500 people and destroyed thousands of homes and businesses. The rebuilding has been slow, but 2019 saw Lombok start to recover. However by April 2020, the tourism industry in Indonesia (as in the rest of the world) disappeared as COVID hit.
In August Jon made the difficult decision to return to NZ to find work. Leaving his wife Dewi and 20 month old son Felix, he entered 2 weeks in quarantine in NZ. It was here that they received the shocking news that the lump in Dewi’s neck was Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma after initially being advised it was a benign tumour. The tumour has aggressively returned after being removed in March.
This has been particularly tough for kind, gentle Dewi as she has faced this news on her own in Lombok, without Jon there to help navigate the medical appointments. Having spent the majority of their savings to come home to NZ, Jon will now return to Indonesia to be by Dewi's side as they begin various treatments. How the next few months will look and what costs are involved is hard to estimate. There will be expensive flights, accommodation costs and travelling hours for chemotherapy and radiation treatment.
We know it is a tough time financially for many. But we also know that people care. And there will be those who are able to help Jon and Dewi with this very difficult time which has been made so much harder by the COVID situation. Jon's story is in the video above and we'd love you to watch it and share it with others.
We want our beautiful nephew Felix to have MANY years with his Mumma, his Dad and family. If you are able to give to Jon and Dewi - it would be hugely appreciated!
Much Love,
Nina & Rennie
(Jon's sisters)

UPDATE FROM JON:
Hi family, friends and well wishers.
Dewi, Felix and myself returned to Lombok on Thursday two weeks ago after finishing Dewis final PET scan and doctors consultation.
The scan went well and after hearing news from the doctors in Lombok that the tumor had gone into remission, these tests in Jakarta were a additional in making sure that we're 100% clear with what is happening with Dewis body. And guess what....?
We bloody smashed it! 😁😁😁
No sign of continued growth at any of the tumor sites and Dewi is in great health. We are over the moon and so happy to be able to put that chapter to the side and focus on other things in our lives. I say to the side because there will always need to be tests done but for now we are all good!
Back when I heard the news in New Zealand all those months ago, I wasn't quite sure how we were going to get through this. I wasn't sure how or who to ask for help. To be honest, I felt like I had this unmovable weight on my shoulders (not to mention how my poor wife was feeling) and so finally I thought to ask for help. I cant thank you enough for being there for me and my family. I couldn't do this on my own and I needed other people's support.
I had to put aside my pride and thought "that it is a time I need help and guidance from others".
I'd like others to remember that if you're ever in a situation where you are confused, burdened with what seems like a situation than you can't get out of or things just aren't going your way - then please don't be afraid to ask for help.
I truly believe these results are because of the help that we got from friends, family and people who heard our story and wanted to pitch in.
Sure we could have made it work somehow without the donations etc but all the messages of support and love are what helped push me through this time.
Dewi and I could not be more grateful, humbled and overwhelmed with people's kindness.
We thank everyone who messaged us, called us and donated to us.
We couldn't have done this without you! And how awesome - Dewi is in the clear!!
Thank you so much 🙏
