Help Donna and Gavin rebuild their home

  • Funds Used

      21 August 2018

Thank you to everyone who has supported Donna and Gavin during this time of hardship.

Everyone has supported in different ways thank you all so much.

It was good to catch up with my cousin during my recent visit in NZ.

My cousin is struggling but she is a strong lady and will pull through this.

I thought I would give you an update on what the funds will be used towards. First thing they need to get them shelter on their property is to have the power connected.

Thankfully the garage wasn't damaged and so far funds have been released to insulate and gibrock the garage to make it warm so they have some where to live.

The rest of the funds will be used to reconnect the power to the property so they can slowly rebuild their home.

They have a long road a head and thankful to be able to stay together and stay on the property.

Thank you once again all your support makes a difference.

Thank you cousin and to everybody all over the motu and overseas who have contributed. Words can't express what we have been through and what lays ahead of us. We have converted our little shed into a sleeping and cooking quarters for us at the moment with battery operated lights and gas for heating and cooking. In the mean time we are staying at a temporary accommodation in Whakatane until we get our power on. This is a big job where contractors come in to set up new lines and new connections. Once we have power it will enable us to have power to be able to put in our sliding doors that we salvaged from the house before pink batting and gibbing which we have purchased and stored at our neighbours thanks to the Give a Little. As cousin Tania mentioned the funds will also help towards the connection of the power. It will also mean we can move back onto our whenua as a whanau and have the task of doing a clean up as the house is still standing as we don't have the funds to demolish it ourselves so are doing it bit by bit in the weekends due to us being back at work. It will also be the main power box for when we start a rebuild whenever that may be. Thank you once again ki a koutou katoa. Nga mihi.
