Help Em-Haley (Waikato/Ngaati Tiipaa), 1 of 7 selected globally to represent at the UN & Indigenous Peacebuilding Summit in NYC! 🌿
Port Waikato, Waikato Region
My name is Em-Haley Kukutai Walker (Waikato, Ngaati Tiipaa). I have been selected as one of only 7 Indigenous leaders globally—out of over 2,000 applicants—to be supported by the UN Voluntary Fund to attend the 25th UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues in New York this April.
While this selection is a prestigious honour for my iwi and for Aotearoa, the financial support provided only covers my flights and 7 days of daily costs. My actual commitments to the Global Indigenous Peoples Caucus and the Historic Second Summit on Indigenous Peacebuilding require me to be on the ground for 17 days (April 15th – May 1st).
New York is one of the world's most expensive cities, with basic accommodation often exceeding NZ$400 per night. I am seeking your support to bridge this significant funding gap. Your koha will ensure that our voices are present for the full duration of these historic proceedings, advocating for Indigenous health and peacebuilding at the highest level. Any koha helps no matter the size! Your donation supports:
* The 'NYC Gap': Securing safe accommodation for the 10 nights not covered by the UN fund.
* Nourishment, Health Insurance & Transport: Ensuring I can travel between the UN Headquarters and Summit venues and maintain my health during 17 days of intensive advocacy.
* Technology and Representation: Providing the means to bring our unique Māori perspectives and cultural materials to the global Indigenous community.
Yours in gratitude and sincerity, 𝓔𝓶-𝓗𝓪𝓵𝓮𝔂.
Your generous koha covers the 10-day gap not funded by the UN, including NYC accommodation, safe transport (airport/local), meals, health insurance and technology during 17 days of intensive advocacy.
