This fundraiser is to enable Extreme High School in Kampala Uganda buy four acres of land to grow beans and maize for food.
Henderson Valley, Auckland
Extreme High School in Kampala Uganda feeds, houses, clothes and educates 402 young people, many of whom were rescued from the streets as orphaned, abandoned or abused children. Some were HIV/AIDS orphans. Others came from poor families who could no longer provide for them. The High School is one of four schools that are part of the Uganda Nutrition School Feeding Program (UNSFP) which now cares for 1700 children. It was begun in 1999 by six friends, initially, to care for four HIV/AIDS orphans found abandoned in Nansana Village in Central Uganda. As the problem of abandoned children exploded the program quickly grew and established a feeding and education program. One of the rescued orphans was Kayemba Enock who today is Coordinator of the wider program and teacher at the High School. Since Covid 19 its funding base has collapsed while food costs have escalated. Sometimes the young people go to bed hungry as there is simply no money to buy food. Kayemba is asking for help to buy four acres of land adjacent to the school to grow beans and maize. The land will also be used to teach the young people to grow their own food. Buying this land is a one-off project that will make a permanent change to the School and its young people. Please help the High School buy this land.
I have a daily prayer practice in which I pray for poor people and those devoted to caring for them. I met Kayemba nine months ago and we have corresponded daily ever since.
The money will be spent on four acres of land. The cost of four acres of land is estimated at from 10.5-16 million Ugandan Shillings. This works out at around $5000-$7360 in NZD. $7360 plus the 5% admin fee is about $7750. So that is the target.
Fundraiser closed-how funds will be used 21 December 2024
Thank you so much for those who gave to this fundraiser. Unfortunately the total raised ($353.75) wasn't enough to buy even a smaller plot of land. In discussion with Mr Segawa Ephraim, the founder and director of Extreme High School and the wider organisation (Foster Friends Uganda) we felt an appropriate project to use this for was a stalled building project. In 2013 building began on a new boys dormitory at the school as the boys are currently living in very inadequate conditions. The project stalled for lack of money to buy cement. This is the closest project we could find to the spirit of the fundraiser which was to make a long-term difference rather than just use it for day to day costs at the school. The money will help the school recommence building of the dorm. The money saved will now be paid directly into the account of Extreme High School Namayumba.
Thanks so much Sue
Thanks so much Sue. Each time somebody donates it gives me hope for these young people who have become like nieces and nephews to me.
