Please help Fynleigh get to Junior Space School (NASA) Expedition December 2018 EMPOWERING OUR GIRLS FOR FUTURE SUCCESS !

Auckland

Hi, my name is Fynleigh -Grace and I am a 14 yr old student at Westlake Girls High School in Auckland.

An amazing once in a life time opportunity has arisen for me to travel to NASA’s headquarters in Houston and the US Space And Rocket Center in Huntsville Alabama in December 2018 with CASE Junior space school.

I am currently refereeing basketball for North Harbour basketball to try to earn my own money towards the funding of this trip but I will not be able to raise the full amount required set by the Organisers Alliance of Girls Schools Australasia.

This unique opportunity will enable me to undertake the following amazing (STEAM) educational and empowering activities:

Astronaut Training at U.S. Space and Rocket Center (USSRC) staying onsite for a week at the Space Hub.

Space education re the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo space programs - design your own mission and tune ,test and launch our rockets.

A week in Houston with following activities:

Visit to Rice University ( where President Kennedy gave his famous speech about travelling to the moon)

Conduct challenging DNA extractions at Cell Lab , forensic and blood spatter analysis

History of space exploration.

Visit Johnson Space Center, NASA’s headquarters including mission control and exhibitions.

Marine biology education - own dissection of shark, ecology and conservation.

Dinner with former astronaut.

Visit Houston Museum of Natural science.

I cannot convey enough how this opportunity has the ability to open up my world and to empower more women to enter into these areas as a future career.

My mother is assisting me in every possible way she can. This is the first opportunity for New Zealand girls to attend this program and I would so like to go so I can spread the knowledge and try to enable New Zealand to offer these opportunities in the future more regularly.

I believe that STEAM education will provide excellent career avenues and empower us girls for future success.

I am very aware that everyone is fighting their own battles at the moment, but if you would like to help me, even a dollar is an amazing help. If I am successful in finding the cost of this trip I will share all the details of my trip of a lifetime with you. Thank you for taking the time to read this,

Fynleigh Grace Harris

My 14 yr old daughter has been given a once in a lifetime opportunity to attend an international educational program at NASA and the US Space and Rocket Centre in Huntsville Alabama in December 2018. This is an exceptional opportunity for her and I am assisting her to fundraise to enable her to be able to attend. This is the first opportunity for NZ girl students to attend and so is a great opportunity to encourage this program in the future to other kiwi girls.

Use of funds

The goal at present is to fundraise as much as possible towards this amazing opportunity . As stated above if you wish to help, even a dollar is very much appreciated, “ From little acorns big trees grow!”
