We covered the first arborist bill for Sandflat Road, we need community help covering the second.
Cromwell, Otago
When the council began moving on the Sandflat Road pines, this community responded the only way it knew how. With evidence. We funded not one but two independent expert assessments, because we believed that if we could show the council a better path, they'd take it. We didn't know they wouldn't listen (and we haven't given up).
This report will be valuable going forward for our cause. If groups like the Motorcross group are granted use, this report proves the remaining trees will be safe and secure.
The second arborist and forestry evaluation is complete. It found that significant sections of the pines could safely remain whilst other sections were felled. It confirmed the stand is immature for harvest and currently low in commercial value and that deferring for 25-30 years would deliver meaningfully better timber returns. It gave the council real options.
That report is done. And the invoice of NZD $1,696.25 (The same cost as the 1st report + the Give A Little fee) we need the community's help to pay it.
Every dollar raised goes directly to the professional assessment invoice and the cost of using Give A Little. If you've ever walked your dog through those pines, wished Cromwell had better outdoor spaces, or just believe that communities should fight for what matters, please contribute what you can.
