Help Fund the People’s Select Committee on Pay Equity

Let’s make sure every voice is heard — and every worker is valued.

In May 2025, Aotearoa New Zealand witnessed a blow to democracy. Retrospective pay equity legislation — affecting hundreds of thousands of women and undervalued workers — was rushed through Parliament under urgency, without public consultation, submissions, evidence, or scrutiny. No voice for the people.

That’s why the People’s Select Committee on Pay Equity was formed.

Convened by Marilyn Waring and made up of respected former Minister’s and MPs from across the political spectrum, the People’s Select Committee is a non-partisan, independent forum. The Committee is calling for submissions from the public so that our communities, experts, organisations and affected employers and workers can submit the evidence that should have been before Parliament.

What We’re Doing

We’re creating a democratic space for people to be heard — through written submissions, public hearings, livestreams, and a final report that will be delivered to Parliament and widely distributed.

Our goals are:

• ✅ To amplify the voices of workers, employers, families and community groups who were shut out of the official process

• ✅ To produce an evidence-based, high-quality, widely distributed report capturing testimony, data, and policy recommendations

• ✅ To build public awareness through communications, social media, media coverage, and storytelling
