    Hello to Caleb's supporters,

After an extremely busy few weeks, including two Auckland preparation regattas, Caleb sails his first race for New Zealand tomorrow at Youth SailNSW. This is one of Australia's premier Youth Regattas and will attract a high caliber of competitors. Caleb's objectives for the regatta are to do his best, have fun and to nail his starts!

If you want to follow Caleb's progress over the next three days you can do so here under Open Optimist.

  • Change of venue

      20 June 2024

    Hello everyone,

Due to the political situation in Noumea, the difficult decision has been made to change the venue for the international regatta that Caleb will attend. Instead, he and his team will compete at Youth Sail NSW, sailed on Lake Macquarie in Australia. This regatta is a significant one on the Australian sailing calendar and will include some stiff competition!

Caleb is undertaking winter sailing in Christchurch where conditions permit and is lined up for two further training clinics in Auckland in August and September.

    Thanks again for your support!

  • Coaching Clinic update

Hello Caleb's supporters. This past weekend, Caleb attended his first coaching clinic in Auckland. This was a three day event, held at Gulf Harbour and was run as a combined clinic with all NZ Optimist travelling teams. 40 sailors in total attended from teams travelling to the Worlds, Europeans, North Americans, Asian Champs and the Development Teams (which include Caleb). Coaches attended from Yachting New Zealand and included coaches of current + former NZ Olympians and World Champions!

The conditions were very difficult with very light winds to contend with. Caleb learnt a lot however and really enjoyed the coaching environment and high expectations. His best race result was a 5th place which he was stoked with as this was well above expectation for his first NZ clinic.

Thanks again for supporting Caleb, we really appreciate it.
