Getting the best possible care for Kev (Zach) so he is on the mend and back to NZ as soon as possible!

Rotorua, Bay Of Plenty

Kia Ora everyone,

My dad, Kevin Harper, one of his best mates Clive Nothling and third crew member Shane were sailing home to NZ from Fiji when the autopilot failed and tragedy struck. Both Kevin and Shane were severely injured and very sadly Clive did not make it :(

Shane was fortunately rescued by a cruise ship but Kev was trapped on the boat with his injuries and late best mate for over 14 hours not knowing when help would arrive, then had to endure another 18 hour journey back to Fiji in his injured state. Kev has sustained a severe head injury and concussion, multiple fractures in his neck, shoulder, spine and ribs, and has a collapsed lung. He is currently on a drip to drain all the fluid and blood out of the cavities surrounding these fractures. Kev is in the hospital in Fiji, but we have unfortunately been warned the sanitary conditions are not totally up to standard and there is a high risk of infection.

We will use the funds to hopefully get him transferred to a cleaner and more comfortable hospital, to pay the huge hospital bills his stay will incur, any ongoing medical costs, and to cover any travel and accommodation costs to get mum over to Fiji to bring him home safely to NZ as soon as possible.

We will be forever grateful and appreciative of any small amount you may be able to spare, especially in these tough financial times. We cannot thank you enough and even though Kev is in good spirits, we just want to see him on the mend and on his way home to us as ASAP ❤️

To the Harper Family. I was sad and shocked to read of Kev's difficult situation. Recently I had some time in hospital, time to reflect on the past as we enter old age. Kev's name came into my head, I Googled and there he was, oh my goodness,I read the story in disbelief. My friendship with Kev goes back to the late 1970's early 80's. What a man, big grin on his face, beautiful smile, laid back, happy go lucky, delightful personality. I remember him as a fighter, he's tough, he's a survivor.I have wonderful lifetime memories of a special bloke, I have often thought of him over the years. Please pass on my Love and Kindest Regards to Kev if possible. My thoughts are also with you Sharlene although you may not remember me. Kind Regards Brendan Kingsbeer.
