Help get Paige to Ghana to volunteer as a Medical Assistant

    After a 30 hour plus journey to Ghana and 3 days in the Accra, the capital city, Paige is now settled in to her new home for the next 6 months in a town of 60,000 people called Akim Oda south west of Accra.

    She is finding the people very warm and friendly and they have welcomed her with open arms, Her host family are wonderful and she is enjoying the challenges of living in a country that is so different to what she is used to.

    Her volunteer job at the local hospital is going well. At the moment she is working in the Dispensary distributing medication to patients, and next week she will move to the children's ward. The experience she is gaining is incredible and opportunities like this are few and far between.

    During her stay she will be able to venture away from Akim Oda at times to explore other areas of Ghana allowing for a very rich experience of this amazing country.

  • And she's off!

    Two days ago Paige left NZ for a 31 hour journey over 24,000 kms to reach her destination of Ghana! She arrived safely with 13 other NZ volunteers and is staying in the capital city Accra for 3 days. There she will be involved with an orientation which will also include volunteers from Canada and the UK. Then its off to her placement in Akim Oda a few hours drive away to settle in with her host family and begin her volunteer position at Jubilee Hospital. Exciting times for this 17 year old!

  • Market Day fundraising

    Just before Christmas Paige headed to her local market at 4.30 am to set up a stall selling old toys, books, clothes and household items to raise money for her trip. It was a successful day bringing in $240 that will go towards her daily living costs in Ghana.

  • Placement Confirmed!

    Paige's placement has been confirmed! She will be volunteering at Jubilee Hospital in Akim Oda, Ghana. It has a capacity of more than 100 beds and 98 staff. There she will be helping out with many jobs in the hospital including (but not limited to!) the pharmacy department, the laboratory, taking vital health stats of patients, first aid health care, and much more.

    Just over 3 months to go and she will be off for an experience of a lifetime. She continues to work hard in her after school and holiday jobs to raise as much money as she can. Thanks once again for your generous donations that are helping her reach her target fundraising goal.

  • Helping to make a young girl's dream come true

    Once upon a time a young girl had a dream of becoming a doctor. Now that young girl is 17 and will be off next year to gain some valuable experience volunteering in West Africa (Ghana) before heading to university, getting her that much closer to her dream! She is working hard in her after school job to earn the money needed for this incredible experience. However she needs all the help she can get as $10,000 is a lot of money to raise!
