Help get the AWRC boys to Henley Royal Regatta

Whanganui, Manawatu-Wanganui

For years, it’s been a dream to send a crew from Aramoho-Whanganui Rowing Club to the Henley Royal Regatta — the most prestigious club regatta in the world, held at Henley-on-Thames.

Through hosting UK gap students over the past four years, the seed was planted and given time to grow and develop into a dream and now reality.

Our 4x crew of Nicky Maxim, Bryn Morgan, Jake Newton and Xavier Warren have grown through the program together, earning 20 Maadi medals and 8 National Champs medals over the past 4 years. More importantly, they represent everything our club stands for.

They’ll race the Fawley Challenge Cup (Junior Boys Quad Sculls) — an event many of our UK athletes have competed in, and one where an AWRC athlete (Eli Kuehne) made the final in 2025.

They’re not just going there to compete — they're going there to win.

No NZ club crew has done that at Henley since the 1960s.

The boys are balancing work and in Nicky's case school as well while preparing for this opportunity. All funds raised go directly toward flights and accommodation — the biggest barriers to making this happen.

If you can support, you’re helping them represent our club, our community, and New Zealand on the world stage.

The Journey So Far  29 June 2026

We had 43hrs in transit enroute to getting to England. 10hrs off the plane and the boys were racing at Marlow Regatta. This was a trial by fire but good to shake the cobwebs off and get some racing under our belt. Performances weren't up to their ability but it set a good floor for the boys potential here.

Since then we've been based in Oxford and hosted by families from Hinksey of whom we had rowing at AWRC during their gap years to NZ. It's been an amazing relationship forged there and their 4x has been a great boat to build experience against as they're quite fast.

The boys have been able to do the odd bit of sightseeing around Oxfordshire but as racing starts tomorrow we look to move to Henley today and gear up for racing.

Again, thank you all soo much for your support in getting the boys to Henley. Its been an absolute dream to come here and the reality hasn't disappointed so far. I know the 4x will be doing all they can to seize the moment and make everyone proud back home.
