THE COMPANY ETHOS:

Black Cat Productions established itself in 2017 for one reason.

To create a space not only for Circus artists, but for artists of all styles, mediums and skills to be loud, proud and strut their colourful soul stuff through collaborative projects of all sizes and flavours.

To produce exactly what our authentic artist's voices strive to make.

Every show we have produced in the last 2-3 years has been completely self funded which has limited our dreams of having a high production value over our shows. However, on average, every show we have collaborated on has sold out.

Our artist's voice is screaming out for this project to come to life, so much so, we have been losing sleep over how excited we are to have the opportunity to tell this epic story. Using our incredible homegrown cast of some of New Zealand's best and brightest multidisciplinary circus performers, the monster that is Wicked Grounds is beginning to seriously hum with our magical creative juice. We want to produce this immersive journey to the best of our ability and bring an unforgettable experience of the highest quality to our audience, so we've decided to fall into our community and trust them to catch us with our vision for this show with a crowdfunding campaign. We intend to use our campaign to cover some of our major costs like staging, bringing our insane lighting design to life, custom made costuming by an upcoming NZ designer, hiring state of the art gear, covering the huge cost of hiring the theatre and so on, and so forth. The end goal, is to take this show to the San Francisco Arts Festival in June 2021 and show the world what New Zealand Circus Theatre is made of.

THE SHOW STORY:

The story follows Ava Quinne, a quirky, bright eyed white Witch who finds herself falling deep into a dark love story with a cunning, narcissistic Sorcerer - The Trickster, who she unwillingly summons during a Tarot reading gone wrong.

This powerhouse cauldron of physical storytelling sees Ava journey through the Realms of the Universe as her sister, Kitty and her Coven of Witches try to protect and hide her light that houses the essence of innocence. The true magic that lives inside her heart is what the Trickster needs to supercharge his poisonous lust for ultimate power and control of the Light.

In attempts to evade him, we follow Ava and Kitty through the Realms as they encounter deities of the Old magic and the New, A supernatural bounty hunter is hot on their trail and a vessel of Destiny interferes with Fate, all leading through to an epic show down between the light & the shadows.

Who prevails when the true Light dims in the dark? Can you feel the hungry creatures of the Abyss drawing closer?
