Many vulnerable Kiwi families desperately need therapy dogs to support children or adult family members.
Nationwide
In June 2018, Therapy Dogs New Zealand was formed to support children and adults with various issues: PTSD, Anxiety, Panic attacks, Autism, Cerebral palsy, Chronic illness and a range of other disorders or disabilities.
Labradoodle therapy puppies are highly intelligent, family friendly, very affectionate, loving and they just adore kids and people. They form a very strong bond and are a sensitive, submissive and gentle breed that matures quickly and has asthma and allergy friendly wool coat that is non-shedding.
These dogs can reduce anxiety, calm overwhelmed children, promote relaxation and sleep. They also bring non-judgmental life-long companionship and successfully provide hours of therapy support in a home, work, hospital or school environment.
There are so many children and young adults with severe anxiety, panic attacks and mental health issues, resulting from trauma, bullying, grief and illness. There are also many kids with Autism spectrum disorder who struggle to cope in such an over-stimulating world, struggle to form friendships with their peers and to be understood. Their ability to connect and communicate with a therapy dog is amazing and can make all the difference, reducing their autistic-like symptoms whilst reducing the stress for the other siblings and parents in the home.
A therapy dog brings much love and joy to a family home challenged by disability, autism, ADHD, developmental delay syndromes or mental illness.
As the Director of Therapy Dogs New Zealand, I receive so many requests every day from individuals and families that need a therapy dog to support a child or family member with ASD or Developmental delay syndrome, Disability, Chronic illness and PTSD however many cannot afford the $12,000 plus GST cost to breed and train a therapy puppy for their needs. My initiative is to set up a fund that Kiwis can contribute towards so we can help 1-2 vulnerable families receive a therapy dog each year.
To donate trained therapy dogs to several vulnerable Kiwi families that don't have the means to afford one.
Applicant families will be interviewed, assessed and granted a therapy dog based on a set criteria as well as supported with regular visits.
Thank you so much
