Canterbury
My name is Hamish and I am a young kiwi aspiring to be a professional ballet dancer. I live in Christchurch and I train at Convergence Dance Studios under the care of Olivia Russell. I started dancing at 4 years of age and my passion and appreciation for ballet has continued to grow, the more I dance, the more I want to dance. To earn a place in a professional ballet company is highly competitive which will require me to be one of the best male dancers in the world. In 2023, at just 15 years of age, I achieved second placing in the senior division (male and female) at the South Island Ballet Award competition. I was also placed 3rd in the senior male section at the Sydney semi-finals of the Youth American Grand Prix, which qualifies me for the New York world finals in April. As a result of my YAGP international exposure I’ve been awarded a number of scholarships to summer intensive ballet classes at many of the best ballet schools in the world. The expert tuition and experience I would receive overseas, is pivotal to helping me achieve my professional ballet dancing dream. Whilst tuition is often included in the scholarship offer, travel and accommodation is not. I am from a large family and any funding assistance would be enormously helpful and much appreciated.
Father to Hamish
This money will be used to enable me to travel to critical dance events that will help my future career as a ballet dancer and young artist.
