Parkinsons can strike at any age. It brings mental anguish & physical limitations. Help Hamish be more than his diagnosis.
Christchurch, Canterbury
Hamish was first diagnosed with a rare form of aggressive early onset Parkinsons Disease when he was 43. He is now 45; lately he has been hit with sudden fast deterioration of symptoms and has had more falls resulting in him having to leave work. He can not get up off the ground without assistance.
You can imagine the layers of stress & worry as it impacts every angle of his life including disturbed sleep patterns etc.
This horrendous disease is now a daily struggle as he tries to be proactive in his self care & raising two kids ages 11 & 9. He was coaching his sons league team, played for Riccarton Knights Club & enjoyed the social aspects of his job. All of which he has had to withdraw from. Instead, he was attending physio led exercise course at Burwood 3 times per week; and he was the youngest there. He's gone from being so productive in his community & care for his young family to feelings of letting his family down, isolation and embarrassment. He can't go anywhere without people staring as they wonder if he's just drunk.
The good news is that he has been selected for a rare brain operation within 12 months. Frightening because he has to be awake during the op.
We need to get his wife to Auckland when he is called up as his support person. Iv based flights, travel, food & accomodation costs around her staying for one week as a guide to the minimum we need to raise. Please help me raise a minimum of $1568.
This is my family. I am Mel's 1st cousin. Their children are my
2nd cousins plus hubby & I are their chosen Godparents; they call us Aunty & Uncle out of respect. We help with childcare & hobby costs regularly.
For Hamish to have his wife with him when he undergoes rare brain op. Less than 20 ops are done every year, Hamish has been accepted. Any donations will go towards Mels Accomodation, food, flights, travel expenses to & from hospital/airport for one week.
Thanks for making a difference ♡ 28 August 2024
My hubby thinks he's quite witty with his one liners (specially after a gin or 2) so we had these tshirts made for our cousin Hamish age 45, diagnosed with a fast onset parkinsons; because he is embarrassed going out and has to contend with people staring at him with accusatory expressions as if he's drunk. He walked into a dairy the other day and accidentally bumped into a younger women who called him a retard. For every bad interaction, we remind him of the good & the strangers who care. To the ones who have donated to my givealittle page for him -Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou. You really are the good & the kind in the world! His kids Louie age 11 & Pyper age 9 are in the process of writing thankyou notes to each of you. They are just amazed that people care enough to want to help make a difference.
