She's Home!
7 January 2021Ruby's surgery went well.
The surgeon was impressed she was weight bearing the same day as the surgery!
She was booked in to get the knee she'd torn the ligament in sorted, but turns out over the christmas break she managed to tear the other one! So we got them both done at the same time.
She's had the MMP surgery which means she'll be back at it much sooner than other options. I've added a great (2 minute) video on what the surgery entails if anyone is curious!
She's definitely feeling sorry for herself but she's got a fentanyl patch (pain relief similar to morphine) attached to her leg so won't be feeling too much pain.
Looking forward to letting her out of the crate again properly (she does fit better than this photo shows, she's just decided to lie width wise instead of length wise 😂) and joining in the pack walks again.
Her schedule for the next six weeks will be pretty controlled, and then after 12 weeks she'll be ready to fully join again!
Weeks 1-2: 5-10 minute slow walks 6-8 times a day, constrained to crate or on a leash otherwise.
Weeks 3-4: Gradually increase the length and decrease the quantity of walks towards the weeks 5-6 goal
Weeks 5-6: She should be capable of doing a couple of 30 minute walks each day, she should have an x-ray here to determine how well she's healing.
Weeks 6+: Introduce off leash walking, 5 minutes for the first day off least and then gradually increase the amount of time.
...
Week 12: Should be back to unrestricted activity!
So hopefully we'll start joining in on the pack walks again (at least for part) from the 5 week mark!
