Help Keep Carolina's Family in Aotearoa - Six Years of Giving. Now It's Our Turn

$7,200 of $11,000 goal
Given by 94 generous donors in 6 weeks

A community-minded family who have given so much to Christchurch need our help to stay. Please give, or share - every bit counts.

Christchurch, Canterbury

Their visa runs out very soon - in June.

Carolina Nery, her husband Ricardo Stuani and their eight-year-old daughter have lived in Aotearoa for six years. They came from Brazil, but they stayed because this became home, not just a place to be, but a place to contribute to and grow in.

Carolina is an artist, writer, designer, podcaster, teacher (to name a few), but more than any title, she's someone who genuinely shows up for people. Through her work with Gap Filler, she's helped weave connection into a city that rebuilt itself around exactly that idea. The kind of spaces where something quietly shifts and you feel less alone.

Carolina has been accepted into a PhD exploring why communities are locked out of decisions that shape their own cities and how that changes as AI drives more of those decisions. It's not abstract work. It's what she's already been doing on the ground for years, taken further. The PhD creates a pathway for the family to stay.

To take it up, they need to raise $11,000 NZD.

Carolina has spent years quietly making this city better. Creating connection, showing up and building something real.

Now it's our turn.

If you can give, please do. Even a small amount adds up fast when a community moves together. If you can't, please share this page that costs nothing and could change everything.

Carolina & Ricardo's daughter's best friends are here. Her school is here. Her world is here. It's all she's ever known.

Let's make sure she gets to stay in it.

Carolina is a dear friend and we met through our daughters, who became best friends from their first day of school. She is one of the most generous, community-minded people I know.

Use of funds

All funds raised will go towards Carolina's PhD enrollment and study costs - giving her family a pathway to remain in New Zealand. If the target isn't met, every dollar raised will go directly toward those same costs.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
