Help Lisa fight stage 3 breast cancer by donating money towards critical unfunded medication
Auckland
I've not spoken about this publicly, but this year has honestly been one of the hardest of my life.
My name is Lisa, and I was unexpectedly diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer on 24 March 2026 at the ripe old age of 33 after discovering a large lump in my breast.
I was immediately thrown headfirst into the complex whirlwind that is breast cancer treatment. I have since thankfully completed the first challenging steps of breast surgery (complete removal of my breast and lymph nodes on one side), egg freezing (with a side helping of ovarian hyperstimulation that put me in hospital) and five months of of chemotherapy. On top of all this, I had an unexpected, bonus appendectomy surgery as my appendix got infected during chemo.
My next step is long-term hormone therapy starting next month. I'll need a drug called Abemaciclib which has been strongly recommended by my oncologists due to the high risk of recurrence of stage 4 breast cancer.
Problem is, Abemaciclib is unfunded for my stage and type of cancer in NZ and must be paid for privately at the cost of approximately NZD$80,000 for the meds + oncology consults. That's why I'm asking for your help.
Needless to say, it's been a very challenging year for me both physically and emotionally, but now it's also going to have a significant financial impact on my life. For this reason, I'm turning to friends and community to ask for help.
Please give a little so I can access this medication and reduce the chance of my cancer returning.
The money will be used to cover the cost of two years of cancer drug abemaciclib and oncology appointments associated with this
