Māori Wardens were on frontlines protecting communities and marae during the anti-vax protest this year, and now they need our help.
The Wardens are not police, but are volunteers who serve the community by working with whānau, Māori organisations, community groups and government agencies. During the protests at Parliament, they created safe corridors for schoolchildren and commuters to get through, and helped break up fights and defused the situation where they could.
But to deal with these kinds of large chaotic events in the future, they need to get new communications equipment so they can better coordinate and respond.
The Big Clean-Up (https://www.bigcleanup.org.nz) has set aside $7500 to cover half the cost of this gear, but we need your help to take us the rest of the way.
I am an organiser for the Big Clean-Up.
