Marilyn’s health problems over the years have caused her teeth and gums to weaken and infections to occur endangering her life.
Wellington
Marilyn’s health issues began with her getting type 1 diabetes in her late teens/early 20’s.
She also has Graves’ disease which affected her thyroid. She had to undergo 3 lots of oral radiation to try and fix her thyroid. When none of them worked she had to have her thyroid removed and unfortunately her parathyroid was damaged in surgery (this risk she was advised of). The parathyroid controls calcium retention.
Things then became much worse. Her teeth became weak and some began to break. Infections occured which trigger issues with diabetes. She got really sick last year, in fact she nearly lost her life, and spent a week in ICU at Hutt Hospital. As her teeth are now literally poisoning her, the hospital decided it was best to take them all out. The surgery was on 26th March.
Once her mouth has recovered from surgery Marilyn will need dentures and the quote is $7,500. She cannot get ACC for it as it wasn’t an accident, WINZ won’t fund it as she’s not a beneficiary. She can’t afford to save any extra money as what her partner earns from his job barely covers the rent, food and other bills, so she is kind of stuck! If she was on a benefit, WINZ would fund it! Ironic huh?
I have started this page because I know there are a lot of people who love Marilyn and would like to help her out.
Marilyn is a very close friend of mine who has had a a battle with her health for a number of years. She has to have all her teeth extracted as a result and needs to be able to afford dentures.
The money is being raised for a set of dentures costing $7,500. If we can’t raise the whole $7,500 the money will be put into a bank account until she reaches the total and she will have to cope without teeth until then.
