First New Zealander (female) to qualify for Modern Pentathlon at the Olympics! Help me get there!
Auckland
Kia ora koutou,
I have recently qualified for Tokyo2020 in the Modern Pentathlon. I am the first female to qualify for this event in the Olympics for New Zealand which is really exciting!
Modern Pentathlon is made up of 5 sports (Swimming, Fencing, Showjumping, Shooting and running) making it a very time intensive sport to train effectively for.
I currently don't get any support from HPSNZ and up until this point have been completely self-funded (good bye house deposit haha)...
I have only been competing at an international level for less than a year so I would like to compete in the world cups starting at the end of Feb (Cairo, Bulgaria, Budapest, South Korea) and the World champs (China).
Between the world cups I will be based in Rome to train intensively on my fencing which is my weakest discipline. I would use funds raised to travel costs of living, costs of lessons and coaching, physio and travel/accommodation costs for the world cups and world champs (most countries cover the costs of this for their athletes but we don't have this privilege here in NZ).
When I am home and back in New Zealand I try to get as much relieving work as a teacher but it is difficult fitting in fulltime training with teaching.
Any support you can give would be more than appreciated!
Thank you so much,
Ngaa mihi,
Rebecca
Funds raised would cover the cost of travelling to World Cup and World Championship competitions, the costs of living while training full-time, physio and coaching and lessons.
Any surplus I would like to give to Hospice in honour of Dad xo
Kia ora everyone! 14 March 2020
Hi!!
Long time no chat! The last few months have been a whirlwind. I'm back in Italy and until a week ago, when the lockdown started things were going quite well. Everything is quite up in the air at the moment as everything as shut and we aren't allowed to leave our homes :/.. A lot of big sporting events are also being cancelled in order to stop the spread of the corona virus... I haven't yet heard about UIPM world cup events but they have mentioned they will let us know this weekend. In the meantime I have started keeping a blog over here: https://rebeccajamieson.com/2020/03/13/going-crazy-in-quarantine/ if you want to keep up with everything that is going on and what I am up to, there is an area where you can subscribe to the blog updates!
I've also attached a little segment I got to do with Seven sharp which should help you understand a bit more about this crazy sport I do ;)
Arohanui,
Becs xo
