Help me live independently with Tourettes

Adam suffers from severe Tourettes Syndrome and is seeking funds to buy a suitable car that will allow him to become an Uber driver and live independently in a purpose-built dwelling.

Hi, my name is Adam Belcher. I am a 30 year old single man living in Tauranga. I have had severe Tourettes Syndrome since the age of 15 and it has had a debilitating effect on my life. (You may have seen me on the recent TV series, Living With Tourettes)

Unlike the majority of people with Tourettes, my symptoms have got much worse as I I have got older. From the moment I wake up, every day, I have ongoing, severe, involuntary motor and vocal tics. I cannot work or manage my life without the help of many caring people. What’s more, I face ongoing high costs from the damage that I often do to the furniture, fittings and walls of my rented accomodation. (All without meaning to or being able to control my tics)

I have tried many different medications and therapies, with limited success. Legally prescribed Sativex cannabis spray does help to lessen my tics, but I still struggle with the everyday things that most people find easy.

Despite starting several jobs and training courses, I have been unable to find work that I can sustain for any length of time.

However, I am very committed to living an independent life without having to rely on friends and family. I am now hoping to become an Uber Driver. (I can suppress my tics while driving).

But to do this I need a car than is less that 10 years old, but this is currently unachieveable for me. A newer car would greatly increase my earning power and ability to support myself.

I am also hoping to save for a deposit on a small apartment, or a custom designed “Tourettes friendly” relocatable home that I could live in independently at my parents' property But this, also is beyond my reach without the chance to become self-employed.

Any help, no matter how small, would be gratefully appreciated.
