End of 2022 update!
12 December 2022Thank you again to all the supporters on here we really appreciate it 💕
The past 5/6 months has been busy and successful for Jarell with basketball!
He played for Auckland Samoa u19 (age eligible for u17) in the First Nations tournament held in Auckland where they managed to place a respectable 3rd.
He traveled with Tonga Aotearoa Basketball down to Tauranga for Hoopnation Classic which was a great experience in high level basketball.
His high school team managed to make it through to Greater Auckland championships which was a solid achievement as their school hasn't made it that far before.
In early November he traveled to Palmerston North and Wellington and played with Black Thunder vs the Goannas- Australia's Deaf Men's team where he managed to pull out 19 and 20 point games against a team full of mostly over 24s and receive POTD for the second game but the best part (for mum) was watching him grow on a personal level- connecting with the deaf community, increasing his use of NZSL to communicate with others and working on his leadership skills.
In late November he trialed for a USA tour with Polynesian Basketball and was selected for an u18 team which is super exciting and they are off to AAU tournaments in Las Vegas and California in April which will be absolutely amazing experience.
He has also been playing in two social mens leagues to keep up his fitness and training as well as weekly scrimmages at the local rec centre. All the basketball!
Looking forward to next year 💕
