Raising funds to support Mel & Grant Reeves while they are with their severely injured son Ryley as he recovers from life-altering injuries
Manawatu / Whanganui
Mel and Grant Reeves are stalwarts of Levin, always the first to lend a hand, raise donations, help others where and whenever there is a need. If someone needs something, Mel and Grant will give it. Their children, Ryley, TJ, and Alana, have the same generosity.
This morning, Tuesday 21st May 2019, Mel and Grants eldest son, Ryley (aged 13) was at the local skate park before heading off to college. We don’t know exactly what happened, but Ryley fell 2 metres onto his head on concrete. Ambulance and Police attended. So far his injuries include fractures of his face, ribs, collarbone, shoulder blade, and a neck injury of unknown severity. He is in a drug-induced coma at present. Once the severity of his neck injury is known, he will be flown to Starship (in Auckland) or Burwood Spinal Unit (in Christchurch).
Funds raised will help Mel and Grant with the associated costs of having a severely injured child in hospital: transport, food, time off work, caring for their other kids, etc.
Mel (and her hubby Grant) is a fixture in Levin, always giving to others of their time, fundraising, organising donations when and wherever there is a need. This time Mel and Grant need our help.
All funds raised will allow Mel & Grant to focus on their sons’ recovery from life-altering injury, by allowing them financial relief from associated costs such as cross-country travel, care of their other children, food & accommodations while in hospital.
Ryley 23 May 2019
Ryley came off the ventilator on Wednesday about lunchtime and is breathing on his own. This is a good sign, although he is still in the drug-induced coma to allow his brain to rest and heal. Still we wait.
Mel and Grant are quite overwhelmed at the generosity shown to them by the donations. They thank everyone greatly for their donations, and are humbled by the love that is being demonstrated to them.
