Although it has been a tough journey with multiple complications, hospital trips and even an ambulance ride Mel wants to let you all know that she has received some amazing news. She has had a Pathological Complete Response (PCR) to chemotherapy which means she is now cancer free!! The best outcome Mel and the family could have ever wished for. She has also now completed surgery and is resting up before she finishes the last step which is radiation.

She wanted to thank you all so much for your generosity as because she was so sick from chemo she made the tough decision to give up working and your donations helped to let her just focus on fighting cancer.

There is still a little road to go in terms of recovery but Mel, Sam and Max are so excited for the future and are again so thankful for all of your support!

This week has been very challenging with my second double dose of pacletaxil and carboplatin ending with a night in ED due to vomiting. Shout out to Serena for taking me to ED and staying until 1 in the morning so that Sam could be home for Max. Also shout out to Mum for coming and sitting there with me the next day and taking me to appointments everyday this week so far. Unfortunately I just seem to be reacting to chemo with extreme nausea but luckily I know the next couple of weeks will be OK again as I am only having paclitaxel.

I'm still feeling super positive and having a couple of bad days always makes me feel super greatful for the good ones so upwards from here. Harbour Cancer and my Oncologist are being absolutely amazing and I have been back in the clinic for fluids again all week.

    Lots of love, Mel

Week 3 update: Back for my third week of Chemo today. The last week was a lot better as the Dr changed my drugs to help manage the chemo side effects. The nurses are amazing, and we get unlimited coffee and treats while going through treatment.

Chemo brain got me this week and I forgot to have a blood test yesterday and to put my numbing pad on this morning but the staff here are so good they have organised an urgent blood test before I get going with my infusion.

Mum is hanging with me, which is nice, nothing like a bit of chemo to have some quality time with loved ones :)

Thanks again for following my journey and your continued support. I appreciate you all, love Mel xo

  • Update on Mel's journey

We wanted to share the latest update on Mel’s journey as she continues to face her breast cancer diagnosis with incredible strength. Mel has started chemotherapy, which has unfortunately hit her hard. Her case has been particularly challenging for her oncologist to assess, as they have been working to understand the exact subtype of her cancer. At this stage, they have determined that she is more “Luminal B” than “Triple Negative.” Genetic testing came back with no abnormalities.

Initially, it looked like immunotherapy would be part of her treatment, but after further review by a panel of oncologists, it was decided that immunotherapy is not required at this time. This has allowed us to adjust and lower the fundraising goal.

Mel’s treatment plan now focuses on an aggressive chemotherapy regimen, targeting her grade 3 cancer, which means the cells are highly aggressive.

Your continued support means the world to Mel and her family. Together, we can ease the financial burden and help her focus on what matters most – her health and being there for Max. Thank you all for your kindness and generosity.
