HELP MY SISTER AND HER FAMILY REBUILD THEIR HOME IN PORT MORESBY, PAPUA NEW GUINEA

  • APPRECIATION POST - ETERNALLY GRATEFUL

Not much has changed for my sister and her family. The authorities are still not forthcoming with the relocation and rebuild of their home. They received some financial help for their day to day living some time last year, but of course, with no money coming in, that money is long gone. In November 2025, they recycled some of the building materials and built another little shack in the same site where they are living to this day. Of course the land is still slipping so it is very dangerous for them to live there.

With the donations received from everyone, friends, family, total strangers, in the new year, 2026, all of us will help them at least start to build a decent home on the land that was given to them by Adam's uncle.

When I first started, I never imagined I would receive the kind of help and support that I have received for my sister and her family in PNG. There are so many in our beautiful country, NZ, who are all deserving of help and support. It is people like you who make this world a better place. Thank you is just not enough, but we say it from the bottom of our hearts. I, myself (Boio) and my sister and her family will be eternally grateful for your kindness and generosity. God will bless you all in more ways than one.

To date (4 months later), the family still have not received any relief in terms of food, tents, mosquito nets, etc and no monetary help from any local government and main government agencies. They have started a small-scale street selling business selling food, but it is only a part-time venture to sustain their living by hand to mouth existence.

In July, the family dismantled the building materials to recycle what they could. At the same time, they built a new temporary, but semi-permanent shelter in the area where the original house used to stand.

  • House totally destroyed - New Camp set up - more visits to Government organisations

      5 July 2025

End of June saw the house totally destroyed.

Beginning of July - they seem to be going around in circles… they’ve been to the PNG Defence Force offices to seek their support. This is another avenue through the Defence Force to get the attention of the Prime Minister’s office, relevant provincial and local government agencies and the National Disaster office. They have also been to the National Disaster Office (NDO), again, were told their plight has been discussed by NDO, they are awaiting funds. They plan to take their plight to the Ombudsman Commission in the hope that the Ombudsman Commission will go the National Executive Council, the top government body that co-ordinates the whole of government policy development, implementation, monitoring and reporting.

The weather has been very windy and the blue tarpaulin from the other camp got blown to shreds. The family have set up a new camp.

  • Progress so far....none!

      24 June 2025

Sad to say there has been no progress from the village local government bodies and from the relevant government authorities. Hitolo and her family still live in the temporary shelter. They continue to live hand to mouth.
