Help Nate live the best life he can with this debilitating incurable disease.
Auckland
Nate is 8 and has just been diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) an incurable disease that will eventually rob him of all muscular function.
DMD is a genetic disorder characterised by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness. Caused by an absence of dystrophin, a protein that helps keep muscle cells intact, it usually affects boys and symptoms can show at 3 yrs. First affecting the muscles of the hips, pelvic area, thighs and shoulders, and later the skeletal (voluntary) muscles in the arms, legs and trunk. By the early teens, the heart and respiratory muscles are also affected.
The hardest thing for Nate is seeing his Mum and Dad cry. He knows his future means he won't be able to run and chase his three sisters. He knows that there will be big changes. He knows he has a special life to live.
Time is precious for Nate. This DMD could rob Nate of everything, even his own life. Nate loves all those things boys like to do rugby, run, play, laughs and have lots of fun.
So we want to raise money to help Nate and his family make the most of the time he has. And to help make his families life as fun and stress-free as possible as they face an uncertain future.
Whānau is everything ❤
By donating you will help Nate realise his dream and experience a trip of a lifetime while he is still on his feet. You will help his family face the hard changes that having a child with DMD brings.
Longer term they will need a vehicle that can accommodate a wheelchair and some ramps. Short term his Mum Stephanie wants Nate to have an experience he will never forget (while he is still on his feet).
