  • Uncharted territory

Noahs sister Billie who has just turned 1! is now waiting on a CT scan and more blood testing and is starting long antibiotics for diagnostic work up to find out if she too has the same thing or something else entirely. How unlucky to have siblings present the same way... is it genetics? Is it the home? Or is it a factor of everything, I tried to push harder and earlier for Billie so I wonder if this earlier intervention will have a different outlook for her.

Her paediatrician is amazing and is always so honest and is looking at all the right channels and pathways. Bless her sweet sweet soul i hope

Another 2 hour deep clean of Noahs bedroom and windows.

Much less dusty and removed as much mould as possible for the summer. Hopefully we can replace his, and sisters windows with double glazing soon.

Moped the roof, walls, placed his matress in the sun and washed all his bedding with steam clean function.

  • Home stretch

      22 October 2026

We are reaching the home stretch for this course of treatment for Noah. How long before the next one? How long will we need off work when he has surgery for a port? Will he be well over the entire summer ? What happends if his 1 year old sister has the same thing?

There's been a bit of heat after I spoke put on RNZ and it is not about others incomes, its not about who has it harder. Its about what we have and how we are still struggling for help. If I can save a little it is still going to take years before any major work can be done. It leaves me asking... did we do the wrong thing buying this house? Am I doing enough for my children? Have I failed to keep them safe because I cant repair the windows and reduce the moisture because all of our savings have been drained dry? Did I underestimate my ability to provide on an above average income? Or is there something fundamentally wrong with how the pay structure of nz is these days ? Will it ever be enough? Will it get easier ? I love my children and I guess we will find out. Hopefully Noah will get to do some fun normal kids stuff soon.

    Much love

Noahs tracking well with his course of treatment and is slowly improving. His sister is not doing so well. Awaiting her pediatrician appt woth the hospital next week. The doctors here are amazing and dod a quick once over on her and are dispensing her antibiotics to help her get the the appointment. She's miserable and having bouts of respiratory troubles.

It feels like this never ends

  • Daycare

      17 October 2026

Noah loves his daycare, but when he has iv antibiotics he is unable to attend. I asked his health team if he can go but the infection risk is too high and the risk of other children pulling his line or him getting hurt is also too high.

You still pay full daycare fees when your child is away sick.

Noahs spent over 50 days home this year. Each parent is allocated 10 days sick leave.

4 weeks annual leave is only 30 days.

We try to keep him entertained at home but he is often asking "can I see my friends?"

How do I explain this to a 3 year old.

I'm exhausted. Not the kind of tired sleep fixes. The kind where you're barely holding everything together, but you have no choice because you're Mum.

We both work hard. I work two jobs. Yet every week we're choosing between food, petrol, medical expenses and bills. Healthy Homes NZ and WINZ have declined us because we earn too much.

On paper, we're fine. In reality, we're drowning.

I'm angry. Angry that my three-year-old has permanent lung damage. Angry that our house has mould, rot and draughts I can't afford to fix. Angry that working ourselves into the ground still isn't enough.

    And the guilt? It's suffocating.

Guilt for leaving colleagues short when Noah's hospitalised. Guilt for working when my children need me. Guilt for not being able to give him better.

Noah doesn't understand why we have to hold him down for needles. Why he can't see his friends. Why he can't just be a normal three-year-old.

And I have to look him in the eyes, tell him it's okay and hold back my tears when absolutely none of it feels okay.

When do I get to fall apart? To grieve the childhood I thought he'd have? Between two jobs, hospital stays, bills and being Mum, there simply isn't time.

    I can't fix his lungs.

But surely I should be able to give him a warm, dry home?

I never imagined we'd be asking strangers for help. But my pride means nothing compared to his health.

I don't know how to fix everything.

I just know how fiercely I love him. 💙

Collected all Noah's supplies to administer medications into his Picc Line over the next 2 weeks with a check up on Wednesday. This is likely his last picc line as his veins are almost inaccessible now.

He raced out of the hospital and couldn't wait to get home.

    Here is my trolly
