Help our lovely Lily the cat get radioactive iodine therapy

$1,645 of $1,600 goal

Raising money for treatment to cure our cat's over active thyroid.

Northland

Our sweet cat Lily is 14 years old and she has recently developed a very over-active thyroid. We have been treating this with daily pills which are becoming increasingly difficult to give to her and, along with regular blood tests, are a monthly expense we are struggling to afford.

Our vet has strongly recommended radioactive iodine therapy which will cure the condition and mean no more pills and blood tests and will give Lily a much greater chance at a happy healthy life in her later years. Going untreated, or if the pills lose their efficiency, an over active thyroid can cause serious heart problems, high blood pressure, and significant damage to a cat's eyes, kidneys and brain.

The radioactive iodine treatment is not available in Whangarei and so we will have to travel to Auckland, leave Lily in the vet's care for a week and go back to Auckland to bring her home. The money raised here will go towards the cost of the treatment, travel costs for two trips to Auckland and back, plus the blood and urine tests required before and after the treatment.

Lily has been in our family a long time - having been rescued as a kitten and my two teenagers do not remember life without her. She is the sweetest cat and we really want to do the very best for her - we just need a little help at this time with the cost required to do so.

We are so grateful for your support.

Use of funds

Money raised here will go towards travel to and from Auckland twice, blood and urine tests, and the radioactive iodine treatment itself.

Happy update  22 November 2022

Thank you all so very much for your generosity with helping us get Lily the treatment she needs. I am very happy to say that we have reached our funding goal! I actually shed some tears when it happened - I am so relieved.

I have now booked Lily into the vet in Kumeu for December 14th to get her injection of radioactive iodine. She will stay there until December 20th as she will be radioactive :) She is going into our local vets for her blood and urine tests (needed before the iodine treatment) next Wednesday, so fingers crossed all is well with those results.

Thank you once again, I appreciate you all. I will update you all again soon.

Lynda xx
