  • he had surgery yesterday

      3 July 2021

The nurse just called me and he is on more of the noradrenaline at the moment but they are slowly lowering that. As far as stats go he is sicker than before surgery but that is likely just due to having the surgery and hopefully overnight they can stabilize him more. They are monitoring closely with regular blood tests as well. He is no longer on the trauma bed but is now on a regular hospital bed which is more comfortable. He doesn't have the external framework on his pelvis now. Only the one on his leg. This means that once he has recovered from the surgery they will be able to start sitting him up and doing more with him. It is likely that it will take 2 or 3 days for him to recover as 10 hours is a long time to be in surgery and it would have been hard on his body. The nurse said it's not often they have surgeries that long ever so he is lucky they were able to do as much as they did. Unfortunately he had complications after this and started to go down hill as his liver started to shut down .Its with a very heavy heart that i say a huge thank you to everyone for your gracious support and donations but unfortunately uncle passed away this morning we are devastated by the loss of such an amazing person that is extremely loved.as a result i will be letting aunty(his partner) know to put the donations received towards the funeral services and am putting that information in this update so you know what your kind donations are going to now as unfortunately hes no longer with us i will close this page on 03-10-21 thank you to everyone for your support love and donations

UPDATE: He is still in ICU but doing really well. Getting frustrated with the oxygen tube and not being able to talk. He was booked for femur surgery today but they had a change of plan and want to do it a bit differently which required specialist equipment to be ordered in so have rescheduled for Monday. Hasn't had pelvis surgery yet. Has been 26 days since the accident so his muscles have deteriorated greatly. He can wiggle toes on his right foot but no action on his left at this stage. At this stage the doctors expect that he will be in hospital for at least 6 months.

Hi TIna, I hope you are doing okay I know your strong and I know at times like this love and support is everything, It sounds like Dan has a long way to go but through the love and strength and maybe a little craziness he'll get there. Our thoughts are with you

  • update .thank you to everyone whom has donated

Well it's crazy how quickly things can spin around backwards. FINALLY it appears we are tracking in the right direction. Dan is able to interact with head nods and eyebrow raises and even squeezing hands. Today he even wiggled his toes on his right foot. No movement in his left at this stage and there is still quite a chance that may not come back but it is a huge wait and see game.

The wonderful nurses and doctors have managed to clear the fluid from his lungs which is a great step on the way to him being stable enough for the major surgeries he requires. Thank you everyone for the amazing support. It is greatly appreciated as we still don't know what the future looks like from here but he is doing great and I cant ask for more than that.

  • up date from aunty

      18 June 2021

It will be 3 weeks on Sunday since the accident and just when I thought the light at the end of the tunnel was getting brighter it once again could just be a train.......

He is still quite possibly the sickest person in the country and reality is he could deteriorate at any time.

We aren't out of the woods yet 😪😪

  • just a brief update

      17 June 2021

Hello everyone. He had to have emergency bowel surgery on 6th to have a 50cm section of bowel removed. So thankful that was picked up when it was as he wouldn't have lasted that night without the surgery. Unfortunately alot of things are made harder for the doctors and nurses due to the external metal fixings holding his pelvis and femur in place and he isn't well enough for the bone surgery to take place yet. For now he has been taken off the paralysis medication and just in the last few days has had sedation lowered and is able to open his eyes and squeeze his hand but these things are very exhausting and sometimes he over does it trying to communicate and his blood pressure goes up and oxygen being taken in goes down. Still at this stage (17 days later) he isn't what they would like to call stable as his internal organs (particularly stomach and kidneys) aren't yet awake and trying to do what they should. We are making ever so small steps forward but some days there is a large step back as well so much has happened in the last couple of weeks
