Help Riches Have Wheels get a new computer!

Riches Have Wheels (that's us, Jackie & Gareth) have been living on the road for almost three years, blogging and sharing our adventures on the road, through our blog and Facebook page. Gareth is a freelance photographer and film maker and Jackie is a freelance writer for publications such as Motorhomes Caravans & Destinations, Next and That's Life! magazines. For the past 15 years, Jackie has helped people all over the world to save money and live more simply, through Simple Savings and 'The $21 Challenge' book, and has given many free money saving presentations across New Zealand. We pride ourselves on living a simple life and exist on a tiny budget. But life has a habit of throwing the odd curveball, and over the past year we have been thrown quite a few!

Jackie has had two surgeries in the past seven months and has a chronic pain condition which is predicted to last at least the next two years. Gareth is her carer. Working from home is the only way we can support ourselves right now, as we never know what each day will bring, but we have been doing everything we can. We have recently finished our first book, which is now with the publisher and is due for release in September. We are also about to start work on another, which has already been approved and already we are making plans for a third book. So it's really not a good time for our precious computer to die on us. While we mercifully managed to save all our precious files and photos, the computer is no more.

We don't have much and we don't need much. Just this week, our entire food bill was $13.27! But Jackie's ongoing health issues and the $1000 vet bill for our beloved dog, who we lost at the start of the year have completely broken us and there is no money any time soon to enable us to afford a new computer. Being an author might sound awesome, but you don't see any money from your books for a very long time :) Without a computer, there can be no more books. There can be no more videos, no more Riches Have Wheels. In plain speaking, our entire careers are at stake.

The computer we need is not just any kind of basic computer. It needs to have plenty of grunt and whistles and bells to enable us to do the work we do. We have done our research thoroughly and the model we need is going to cost around $2000. As you can imagine, we don't feel good about having to ask for help. Some of our readers have been following Jackie for 15 years! We appreciate all your loyalty and support so much. While we can't say much about our other books yet, due to publisher confidentiality, by helping us to make these books and other projects happen, you will also be playing a valuable part in helping us to help other people save money, live more simply and even help the environment. There is nothing the two of us enjoy more than helping others and once we have a replacement computer, we will be able to not only get ourselves back on track, but also pay it forward.
