Final update for our stunning and brave Sarah.

This page was created six months ago when Sarah found out she was on the waitlist for a liver transplant.... What a journey the last six months has been for Sarah, Blair, Millie and Mae and extended family and friends.

Sarah is now home with Blair, Millie, and Mae in Christchurch and is back into the normal life of school drop offs and pick ups, deadlines for work, and a few extra appointments to ensure the liver keeps behaving. It is surreal to think how far Sarah's health has come, there is even energy for special family times like going to the circus, willowbank and trips to Nelson.

It has been overwhelming to see how successful this page has been and from the bottom of my heart thank you so much for your love and support for Sarah and her family. You all really have made such a difference during a very challenging time.

    Thank you

    Ruth x

  • Getting home to Christchurch is looking promising

      10 June 2021

Thank you again for the on going support for Sarah.

Since the last update Sarah has been in and out of hospital with almost everything that you could image in terms of complications... She's a bloody tough one but it's been a very rough ride.

It seems there is light at the end of the tunnel, Sarah is getting stronger and with thanks to her parents food (I'm told Juriaan in particular) weight and health has returned.

They are now looking to move her care back to Christchurch which of course means having all four of the family back together in their home.

Well... What a hell of a month....

The easiest part of all of this was the surgery... all I had to do was sleep!

I've been feeling seriously overwhelmed with the amount of love and kindness everyone has shown us during this craaazzy time.. THANK YOU SO MUCH! all messages, text, snaps, prayers, support, donations are so deeply appreciated. What has really pulled me through this time is never feeling alone and I fully hand on heart say I've had nothing but love and support carrying me and my family through this and I never be able to express my gratitude.

My new liver is playing super well with the other organs. The pain is getting better(ish), the scars are healing but from now on you'll find me over here in recovery mode... just taking my time. One day at a time and literally one foot in front of the other (with my rad zimmerframe.. actually).

    Update from me...

Sarah, Blair and Millie are settled in the apartment and Sarah goes into Hospital for clinic and blood tests daily.

Mae is with Cheryl and Juriaan in Nelson with more room to be a toddler.

Thank you all so much for your love and support.

Thanks for all your continued support and prayers for Sarah.

Sarah's doing great her new liver is functioning well and her bilirubin levels are the lowest they have been in two years!!!

She's been taken off all of the machines and today it was a matter of controlling her pain which is still awful.

Millie and Mae will join Sarah, Blair and Cheryl on Monday in two bedroom apartment they have close to the hospital.

Thanks again for all the love and support.

  • Day 8 - still in ICU but progress :-)

      1 April 2021

Sarah is responding to the medication for her liver rejection and chest infection. A long way to go yet but this is great progress.

She is still in ICU but talking, sitting in a chair and even managed a little walk in the ward.

Today is a win but this is a long journey.

Thanks for your messages, support, and offers of help.

  • Still in ICU and treatment started for liver rejection

      31 March 2021

Sarah is still in ICU and will likely be there for sometime yet. The antibiotics are working but progress is very slow with recovering from the chest infection. Sarah is still in lots of pain and is exhausted.

Yesterday we learnt that she had signs of liver rejection. This is very common and most patients experience at least one episode of this. Today they started treating her with steroids and we will know the effectiveness of this treatment in the coming days.

The team in Auckland are amazing and Sarah is well looked after by the medical team.

Please keep Sarah and her support crew in your thoughts. Its a hard road at the moment.

  • Sarah's fighting but has a chest infection and is exhausted

Unfortunately Sarah has a chest infection and is back in ICU. This infection is a result of her Cystic Fibrosis. She is struggling to breathe and is in lots of pain. She's having phyiso to clear the mucus and hopefully the antibiotics start working soon... If her breathing doesn't improve over the next few hours they are going to place a breathing tube in.

Good news the liver seems to be working well.

We just need her to fight this infection. She's a brave and strong women but this is her hardest fight yet.

Please have Sarah in your thoughts and prayers.

P.S her babies are happy and hopefully put a smile on your face after this update x
