An Appeal to fix the bell tower of an historic church in Taihape

Taihape, Manawatu-Wanganui

Early in 2025 The church was re-piled as there was evidence of sinkage in one corner and this was done to maintain the integrity of our Heritage class 2 church. During the storm in September 2025, the guttering and flashing behind the belfry tower was unable to contain the water flow and it appeared raising the church altered the flow angle in the guttering and also stressed the old guttering and flashing that it showed signed of failure. The water overflowed into the Vestry area and the church just below the Belfry tower. The insurance has been working with the Heritage Trust which has been complicated due to a non show from the Heritage Engineer appointed to assess and recommend correct building methods repairs. Another architect was eventually appointed and we have now had the go ahead to repair which we must do before winter. We have had temporary repairs done to help keep out the weather but due to the complexity of the area it was never going to be a fix. We have since had two more weather events with more water ingress. The insurance has now told us, the repairs are not covered by insurance as it is a maintenance issue. We desperately need your help to cover the cost of $10k for this repair. Anything, no matter how small would be appreciated. We know there are a lot of people around New Zealand and beyond who have ties to this lovely Church and would hate to see this church in such a situation. 2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
