Waikato
Sawyer has been selected to represent New Zealand MMA at the UWW Grappling and MMA World Championships in Baku.
He’s 14, and this is a huge step for him. Sawyer has trained in jiu-jitsu for several years, alongside wrestling and sambo. He’s a back-to-back NZ Grappler national champion (2025 and 2026) and has also won gold in his age group at the South Pacific Championships and the NZ Submission-Only Nationals. He loves combat sport, and Baku is a chance to test himself against the best in the world.
Competing for New Zealand means travelling to Azerbaijan in November, and the cost is more than Sawyers family can cover alone. The total cost is about $6,000, covering flights, accommodation, entry and registration fees, team kit, travel insurance and other incidental competition costs.
Sawyer has been fundraising and working to contribute, we’re grateful to Cambridge Rotary for their generous support and we’re now raising the remaining $5,300.
Any amount helps, and so does sharing this page with friends and family. All funds raised go towards Sawyer’s trip, and I’ll post updates as we get closer to Baku and after he competes.
Thank you for backing him. It means the world to Sawyer and his family.
Sawyers Family
Sawyer is my youngest son. I’m managing this page on behalf of Sawyer, and all funds raised go towards his trip to Baku.
All funds raised go towards Sawyer’s travel, accommodation and entry fees for Baku. The total cost is about $6,000 and with Cambridge Rotary’s support we’re raising the remaining $5,300. Any surplus will go towards his future competition costs.
