I qualified for the Ironman World Championships. Now I'm figuring out how to afford getting there.
Christchurch, Canterbury
Hi, I'm Jess.
Back in March I completed Ironman New Zealand in Taupō for the second time and, somehow, qualified for the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.
Qualifying was the goal all along, but now with not long to go, I'm starting to question whether I was entirely sound of mind when I set it. I suppose anyone who willingly signs up for an Ironman is already quite good at voluntarily putting themselves in a very dark hole and enjoying it so thankfully, training is going well.
The only thing I'm not enjoying is my TrainingPeaks calendar reminding me exactly how close race day is. Those notifications are, for lack of a better phrase, scaring the sh*t out of me.
I've also realised it's time to stop burying my head in the sand over all the admin. Apparently you can't just train hard and hope flights, accommodation and race logistics sort themselves out. Even more disappointingly, my bank account clearly didn't back me to qualify either as it hasn't just magically created the funds for me.
I've already been incredibly grateful for the support I've received, so I thought I'd open this up in case anyone else wanted to help me get to the start line.
On a serious note, this is completely voluntary. I chose this challenge, so I'm not sure I qualify as a charity (more of a charity case).
Whether it's a donation or simply a message of support, I genuinely appreciate it. (Although, if we're being honest, cash does go slightly further.)
Thank you.
All things race-related: flights, accommodation, nutrition, equipment, and a bike box.
This is absolutely insane, thank you so so so so so so so much xoxoxooxox
