Help a loving dad access a piece of his complex health puzzle.
Naenae, Lower Hutt
Simon is a loving dad to 4 year old Teddie and 1 year old Kai, and husband to Michaela. Simon loves technology, cycling and theology.
In 2024, Simon hit his head resulting in a concussion that lead to a range of symptoms that still profoundly affect his life today, and he has since been diagnosed with burnout, PTSD, ADHD and Autism. Our doctor has told us that all of this affects his brain function together and is making it difficult for Simon to fully recover.
While Simon had ADHD symptoms since childhood, the impacts of his accident and trauma have led to him having more difficulty masking and managing with daily life. We believe trialling ADHD medication may have a big impact on his recovery.
Simon desperately wants to be able to return to work, to see his life as making meaningful contributions to society, and while he’s meaningful to me just for being who he is, I want that for him too (Michaela)
Because of Simon’s complex needs, the initial appointment and assessment to get medication is $970 and there’s a possibility of more costs to follow up.
We asked our medical centre and unfortunately it will be at least a year before they will be able to provide ADHD prescriptions under the new rules.
Funds will be used towards Simon’s unfunded ADHD medication consultation and assessment.
If we raise more than the cost of getting the initial assessment, it could be used for follow up appointments or towards Simon’s other health needs.
Appointment paid for - and Simon has a new job! 30 January 2026
Ngā mihi nui to everyone who contributed to our fundraising. We paid for the appointment this morning having topped up with a bit of our own money. All of your aroha made this accessible. It’s especially important because Simon has a new job tutoring neurodiverse kids in STEM subjects which is the best suited and most meaningful job he’s ever had. We feel hopeful the medication will help him to do his best at this job as well as recover and do better in his personal life.
There is of course still the possibility that we will need to pay for follow up appointments. This fundraiser was supposed to run until the end of February so for now, I’ll leave that as is. Any additional donations will help us continue to pay for Simon’s mental health related costs.
