It's been a tough few years with Sophie's dad recovering from an awful Brain injury, but her love & talent in dance has continued to shine!
Bay of Plenty
As most of you will know, my daughter Sophie is a talented little dancer. I want her to continue her love of dance and to shine on the Australasian stage!
Just over 2 years ago Sophie's dad collapsed. After many many tests he was diagnosed with Tuberculosis Meningitis, which was complicated with several strokes, hydrocephalus and drug induced hepatitis. He now has a permanent shunt in his brain, which drains fluid to his stomach. He spent a total of 4 months in hospital, 2 of those months in the High Dependancy Unit in Auckland City Hospital. Thankfully he is making an absolutely miraculous recovery (doctors could not tell me in the beginning if he would even survive - and if he did what damage would have been caused). But the road to recovery is long, and therefore he has been unable to work since he collapsed in June 2016.
We have been doing all that we can to keep our 4 children doing all their normal things but there have been significant changes that needed to happen in our lives and many challenges.
Despite all of the above Sophie has been having a great year in her dancing. In January she won the League of Champions and made the top 5 in Dancer of the Year at Showcase Dance Finals. She also was runner-up champion at Follow Your Dreams finals. Recently at the Dancelife Unite regionals in Auckland, Sophie won the highest scoring solo under 12, and therefore won a free entry into Finals in Sydney in September. She has also qualified for the Capezio model search for the same competition. Her dream is to go to the USA to perform, and she'd love the chance to try to win the major award at this competition.
Of course, no win is ever guaranteed, but Sophie thrives on just being part of the whole competition. She comes alive on stage and makes everyone watching her smile. As she is the oldest of my 4 children, she's had a lot of extra responsibilities while her dad has been ill. So I'd love to spend the week in Sydney just focused on her and her happiness, and seeing her shine would make my heart so proud.
I am Sophie's mum, and we've been through a lot in the past few years, but still want my daughter to have opportunities to dance.
Flights, accomodation and entry fees to Dancelife Unite finals in Sydney, and put towards extra lessons and classes in preparation for the competition.
