Help Tony and Debbie's Mt Messenger fight for their land.

Mt Messenger has been PLAGUED with controversy since 2017 when NZTA opted to bulldoze a BYPASS thru 100 hectares of WETLANDS and NATIVE FOREST in the Mangapēpeke Valley instead of upgrading the existing SH3 (OPTION Z). In 2021 NZTA even BLOCKED UP BAT ROOSTS with BUILDERS FOAM!

NZTA scored an OWN GOAL in 2018 by signing an agreement with another landowner (TRoNT) promising NOT TO USE the Public Works Act to take TRoNT land by force.

TRoNT negotiated with NZTA for 5 YEARS, got paid $7.7 MILLION CASH and were given a $1.2 MILLION COASTAL FARM in exchange for 20 ha of land in 2022.

NZTA's DECISION to NOT USE the PWA to take TRoNT land DELAYED the project for FIVE YEARS!

We believe they are attempting to take Tony and Debbie's land BY FORCE. 11 ha of land for $83K leaving the Pascoe Whānau with NOWHERE TENABLE TO LIVE and NO WAY TO MAKE A LIVING!

Tony and Debbie have been ordered to pay Chris Penk's $180K legal costs. Please help them appeal.

From $89 MILLION in 2016, the NZTA BYPASS has blown out to $280 MILLION, and possibly more than this. NZTA has been ordered to get the TOTAL OUTTURN COST independently assessed.

I have known the Pascoe Whānau all my life and we have been helping Tony and Debbie try and protect the Mangapēpeke Valley and deal with the with the Mt Messenger bypass for more than six years.

Use of funds

Tony and Debbie will use the money for the appeal to the High Court against the order to pay Chris Penk's $180K legal costs and to help with the appeal to the Supreme Court to protect the few remaining rights of landowners under the Public Works Act.

I'm so saddened to hear the destruction of this beautiful valley and land. Such a thing should never have been proposed ever! Wetlands, kiwis, bats calves to geckos all important creatures that need their habitats to survive. What a preposterous proposal. And I propose NZTA take the contract back to our present government and tell them it is not a viable option and all cards are off the table!
