Fundraising to get Isabelle mobile and be able to enjoy her life at high school better.
Timaru, Canterbury
Isabelle is a delightful 13 year old girl who was born with hip dysplasia of both her hips. This means the hip sockets are shallow and the hips are sublux (this means the joints are immobilised).
Usually, this condition is corrected by bracing and/or surgery, but in Isabelle’s case, ongoing hip subluxations and multiple surgeries that involved long recovery times have not been successful.
Isabelle has ongoing pain and very limited movement, she currently can only walk with two crutches, and uses a wheelchair for longer distances. This means she has limited sporting or physical activity opportunities that her peers are able to take for granted.
Isabelle’s family attended an expo by Trikes New Zealand, this experience was amazing for Isabelle, she was able to get into one of the trikes independently (something she is unable to do with a normal bike), and was able to pedal all around the arena which she loved immensely.
The mobility and freedom given to Isabelle in this short period resulted in pure joy, however the cost of these trikes has meant the family need assistance to make her dream come true.
The cost of the trike is between $20,000 to $25,000, but the difference this will make to Isabelle’s life is invaluable, and so well deserved for a girl who is due to start high school this year.
Friends and workmates.
A trike that Isabelle can easily get herself on and be able to travel around her new school easily as well as getting out and about in weekends. If the full amount is not raised this will go towards the cost of the trike, and added to some funding possibly from the Halberg Trust and Lotteries Commission.
