Help Krystal start her life again after her 2nd cancer battle.

Wellington

On the 11/09/15 after months of being unwell, Krystal Sloan-Meyrick, then 20 years old and proud mum to baby Harper Rose was diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

Krystal fought long and hard with many months spent between Wellington hospital and the Ronald McDonald House in Wellington.

Although, we were all ecstatic when she reached the point of remission, the treatment had taken it’s toll and along with the emotional upheaval and time without Harper, she also had to deal with total hair loss, vision impairment from radiation and nerve damage from chemo resulting in her having to learn to walk again.

Krystal powered through it all with her staunch spirit and 18 months later had semi-reclaimed her life, still on a maintenance program but happily living independently with Harper. She had the beginnings of a new head of hair and glasses to correct her vision.

Near the end of 2017 some familiar symptoms returned followed by our worst nightmare. The cancer was back.

It didn’t take long for things to take a turn for the worst.

Her symptoms coupled with the devastating effects of treatment and reactions to her gratefully received stem cells from the USA, rendered Krystal bedridden in hospital, once again for months on end.

There were many dark days and some close calls that don’t bear thinking about but Krystal remained strong and pushed through them all.

She is finally back home again in Upper Hutt and while there’s still a long way to go with daily trips to the hospital for monitoring, blood tests, IV fluids, Doctors consultations for constant medication adjustments and treatments for her everchanging symptoms and reactions, she is enjoying having more cuddles with her wee girl, now 3 years old. If she’s feeling up to it, she has the freedom to go on short outings and is loving the comfort of her own bed.

Krystal's glasses prescription has altered drastically from radiation treatment, rendering the pair she saved up for a year ago useless.

Funds raised will help with the cost of a replacement pair and ongoing expenses such as hospital parking and prescriptions etc.

As Krystal has completely lost her hair again and the wig we fundraised for in 2015 has seen much better days, we would love for her to have a new one for this next chapter in her life. Any extra money raised will go towards the cost of this.

We are so happy with Krystal’s progress so far and look forward to watching each day become easier as she begins to rebuild her life once again.

She is determined to live a full life and has a 'bucket list' of things she wants to achieve once she has fully recovered.

Many of you have already been following Krystal’s journey on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Krystals-journey-with-leukemia-151782312110953/?fref=nf and we are forever grateful for all the support everyone has already shown.
