Help Tamara and his family back in Vanuatu, as they come to grips with his diagnosis and future without this father of 8
Riverlands, Marlborough
Tamara Andrew, a hard-working man from Port Vila, Vanuatu, and part of the Hortus whanau. Tamara has been coming to New Zealand since 2008 to help with the massive task of the work involved in caring for our ever-increasing vineyards. Back in his home village Tamara, along with his family are heavily involved in a range of community projects.
It is a big sacrifice to come here year after year, leaving family behind to be able to support them. Tamara has a big family – his beautiful wife Leisongo and 8 children, 24yr old twin daughters, a 22yr old daughter, 15 and 13yr old sons, and the youngest two, a 6yr old daughter and 4yr old son.
Sadly, Tamara has been diagnosed with advanced metastatic malignancy, or in layman’s terms, advanced cancer, which started in his liver and has now moved to many parts of his body. He has been given a prognosis of 3 – 6 months. Tamara is hopeful he will be able to get back to Vanuatu shortly, to spend precious time with his loved ones at his side.
In Tamara’s words “The most important thing in our lives with my family is our Lord Saviour” and we offer our prayers to Tamara and his family.
Hortus, on Tamara's behalf, are reaching out to ask our community for financial support so that Tamara's family will be able to continue going to school and to ease the financial burden on his large family.

It’s with a heavy heart we share the sad news that Tamara passed away over the weekend 22 November 2021
He was with his wife at the time in hospital, battling an illness, unfortunately he didn’t make it home to see his children.
Rest In Peace now Tamara
